Soooo I was SO gassed to finally have my first female artist on The C-Mix Show this week - Shy Sava. Shy joined me over the phone (due to lockdown restrictions) and we had a good old natter about food and music amongst other things. We also of course played a game of Coco's Countdown and it was so refreshing to have some fierce female energy gracing my show.
If you miss a show, remember you can always catch up and listen back here!
Going forward, I'm planning to have both male and female guests on alternate weeks to keep my show both equal and diverse.
It's so important to me that I share my platform with fellow females in the music industry in a way that empowers them, and to offer them the kind of spaces that they normally have to fight for or feel uncomfortable in.
A lot of the genres of music that I play on my show are male dominated genres, so it's easy to unknowingly cast the spotlight onto male artists.
As a female with a platform and a presence in the industry, I am making a conscious effort to change this default and help push through women in the scene so that their voices and art can be seen and heard in equal measures to their male counterparts. Follow Shy on Instagram and Twitter @shysava.
My 'Track of the Week' this week is from an artist I have only recently discovered - Cristale. The track is her Next Up freestyle via Mixtape Madness which you can watch on YouTube here. I'm obsessed with this freestyle and I can't wait to see what she follows up with next.
I've been tapping into some very talented female rappers, especially in the Drill scene, which is so exciting to me. I hope to see more women breaking through the scene in genres like this as time goes on, too! Make sure you go give her a follow on Instagram and Twitter @cristaleyy.
If you're an artist, you can send me music for radio play and Spotify playlist consideration to: email@example.com.
I LOVE discovering new music and I really appreciate artist who takes the time to send me their tracks and links.
When sending over your tracks, be sure to include links to your social media handles, so that I can tag you when I post the tracklist! I love receiving new music and I try to listen to absolutely everything that gets sent, however I can't always response back to every single email. However, if your track is selected to be playlisted, I will always email you to let you know.
