HOW TO LOVE YOURSELF - 40 SELF LOVE AFFIRMATIONS

Need a little love? I'm guessing that's why you're here. Don't worry, I've been there too! And it sounds so simple, this idea of "loving yourself"...but for many of us it can be far from easy. I struggled with how I viewed myself for years until I discovered how to slowly but surely change my core beliefs and really commit to the most important relationship I will ever have - my relationship with myself.



Why is 'self love' so important?

Everything you believe about yourself manifests into every part of your life. Everything you have, everything you've ever had and everything you will ever have was birthed from you and from your unconscious beliefs.


How you see yourself is how you tell the world to see you, how you feel about yourself is how others will feel about you. Your relationships are extension of you, your career is an extension of you, the energy you radiate is an extension of you.


If you believe you are worthless, ugly or incapable...that is the vibration you will put out and therefore what you will attract. When we operate from a place of fear, hopelessness or negativity - we surrender our power. When we operate from a place of strength, belief and love, all power becomes ours.


Love starts within you - to be able to give love you must be able to receive it, and to receive it you must believe you are worthy of it. To love yourself is to believe that you are worthy of love.


Loving ourselves is the single most important and powerful thing we can do.



What are affirmations?

Practicing affirmations is speaking, writing or thinking anything that believe to be true. Where self development is concerned, affirmations are an extremely powerful and effective way of changing your belief system, and manifesting what you wish to be true into existence.

n.1. The act of affirming or the state of being affirmed; assertion. 2. Something declared to be true; a positive statement or judgment. 3. A statement intended to provide encouragement, emotional support, or motivation, especially when used for the purpose of autosuggestion. 4. Law The assertion that the testimony one gives is true and equivalent to that which would be given while under oath.


So if you want to love yourself, practicing 'self love affirmations' is an easy but effective way to start. By affirming it, you are solidifying its truth!



How do I practice these affirmations?

There are many ways to practice affirmations and different methods work for different people. Whichever you choose, make sure it feels natural and not forced.



Heres some various ways you can practice affirmations:


  • During your morning meditation - The morning is the perfect time to practice affirmations. Filling your mind and spirit with positive energy is a great way to begin your day. When you wake up, before you go to check your phone or your social media, take time to align your thoughts and focus on positivity and gratitude. I like to make a tea, get back into bed, put some relaxing music on and spend 10 minutes reciting my affirmations to myself.


  • Create an affirmation board - If you are a particularly visual person, then you may find it beneficial to have your affirmations where you can physically see them for a regular reminder. This could be attaching them to your fridge, sticking post-it notes around your house or even creating an affirmation board with phrases and images on and keeping it somewhere in your house where you will regularly walk past it. This method is also great because it allows you to re-affirm what you've written down throughout the day - strengthening your beliefs without you even trying!


  • Listen to them - Audio affirmations are a great way to absorb that self-love and multi-task at the same time! Simply record a voice memo on your phone of you saying the affirmations, and listen in your car, while you work or as you get things done around the house! There are also some great audio affirmations on YouTube that you can listen to when you get sick of the sound of your own voice!


  • Journalling - One of my favourite ways to practice affirmations is writing them down in a notebook or journal. Even if you're just copying them from once place to the next, it allows you to really focus on each word as you put them down on paper. Spending time to write slowly, read as you go and meditate on each affirmation helps them to enter your subconscious even deeper.


  • Speak them to yourself in the mirror - Ok hear me out...I know it sounds strange, but looking at yourself in the mirror and reciting affirmations to yourself is one of the most powerful self-love practices you can do. Loving yourself is first accepting yourself, and often we can be unkind to ourselves when we see our reflection. Making friends with the person in the mirror is so important when building a relationship with yourself. This is probably the scariest one of them all, but I promise once you try it you will be glad you did!
